Storytelling AI Workshop II
On the afternoon of November 25th, the Department of Language and Literacy Education at National Taichung University of Education invited the lecturer Chang Chia-Tse to give a speech entitled " Storytelling AI Workshop II". Following the first workshop held on September 30th, students had already learned the basics of operating the AI program GEMINI. The lecturer added that GEMINI's capabilities have been further improved; previously unable to generate correct Chinese characters from the images, it can now successfully generate works containing Chinese characters. To everyone’s surprise, the lecturer demonstrated the process and made students felt how advanced technology has become.
The instructor also shared tips on creating eye-catching works through composition and visuals. This included different types of shots, such as those showcasing a character's physical features, scene shots about the environment, and emotional shots highlighting characters’ emotions. The arrangement of the plots also have design elements; a plot with urgency, tension, and twists can be deeply moving. Different styles of visual presentation also exist; for example, flashback scenes can be framed in black, in gray tones, or with special borders. The emotional shifts of a character are also memorable shots.
The lecturer provided feedbacks on the students' submitted entries, made them be better. The theme was "Telling the Story of the department of Language and Literacy Education (People)," using AI to become spokespeople for the department. The entries showcased diverse styles and unleashed the students' creativity. There were beautifully crafted comics depicting the experiences of key figures, classroom anecdotes, and historical changes within the department; interactive guided videos with a relaxed atmosphere, a complete structure, and profound yet moving language that perfectly introduced the department's intricacies; game-style animations; and songs expressing the daily lives and emotions of the teachers.
After the lecturer’s comments, everyone appreciated the rich and excellent works and learned how to operate AI, as well as storytelling and presentation methods. The AI era is an era of explosive creativity. AI can help humans easily produce their desired results, making creation more efficient and of higher quality. However, the one thing that AI cannot replace is our creative ingenuity and inner thoughts. Through AI as a medium, we can convey our emotions in diverse ways. The workshop concluded successfully, and we believe the students benefited greatly and have more confidence in using AI for expression.
