Department of Language and Literacy Education, NTCU successfully hosted a lecture featuring Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Su Wen-Chiao as the guest speaker
On the afternoon of September 23, our Department of Language and Literacy Education held an academic lecture for junior and senior students. We invited Su Wen-Chiao, CEO of “The Inquiry Lab,” to deliver a talk titled “Smooth Communication: Essential Skills for Workplace Newcomers.” During the lecture, Su shared insights on how to master effective communication techniques. This event not only focused on enhancing students’ mental well-being and communication skills, but also aimed to equip them with essential soft skills before entering the workforce, thereby strengthening their future competitiveness.
CEO Su Wen-Chiao pointed out that communication in modern society differs greatly from the past. In an era of rapid information exchange and diverse interactions, poor communication often becomes a major source of interpersonal conflicts and misunderstandings. Therefore, university students must begin to develop clear and empathetic communication habits early on in order to navigate interpersonal relationships and the workplace with confidence and ease.
In the workshop, CEO Su guided students to gradually become aware of their own communication patterns through Satir dialogue exercises and the core concepts of Nonviolent Communication. Through practical scenario role-plays, they learned how to express themselves with respect, clarity, and strength, while also understanding others’ perspectives. Su emphasized, “Nonviolent Communication is not a sign of weakness, but a powerful way to express oneself while honoring both our own needs and those of others.”
At the event, students engaged in group discussions and dialogue exercises to experience four different types of communication styles firsthand and learned how to avoid misunderstandings caused by improper expression when entering the workplace for the first time.
Associate Professor Wang Heng of the Department of Language and Literacy Education, who also serves as the class advisor for the senior students, stated that this lecture was specially arranged for junior and senior students. He hopes it will help students develop essential interpersonal skills beyond academic learning. He pointed out, “Communication is an art of understanding and expression. I hope students can carry today’s lessons into the future and become effective communicators in the workplace.”
Through this lecture, students not only gained new perspectives on communication but also experienced firsthand the importance of balancing expression and understanding. At the end of the event, many students shared that they had learned a great deal and believed this experience would become valuable nourishment for their future careers.
